Make-Ahead Baby Food Cookbook: Meal Plans and Recipes for Every Stage

My first book is here!

I am so thrilled to announce the release of my first book! ‘Make-Ahead Baby Food Cookbook: Meal Plans and Recipes for Every Stage’ is currently available on Amazon and other major book sellers.

Here, I’ll give you a sneak preview into the book, share my process for coming up with recipes and talk about my experience as a Registered Dietitian to help you introduce solid foods to your baby.

Healthy, homemade baby food for all stages

My book is your go-to guide for introducing solid foods to your baby. In the book, I break down:

  • How to make your own baby food (and why you would want to!)

  • When to begin giving your baby solid food

  • What nutrients you should think about when starting to make your baby’s food

  • Feeding tips to help your baby enjoy solid foods and become an adventurous eater

  • Signs of food allergies and how to introduce common food allergens

  • How to make your own baby food, ahead of time, saving you time in the kitchen and making it easy to prepare a large amount of baby food in a small amount of time

  • Tools and equipment you need to make food ahead of time and store it on your freezer safely, so it comes out just as delicious as it was going in

Then, I share recipes for each stage of baby foods, including:

  • Stage 1 - Around 6 to 8 months old - Puréed Foods

  • Stage 2 - Around 8 to 10 months old - Chunky Foods

  • Stage 3 - Around 9 to 12 months old - Finger Foods

Each stage of baby food features 20 delicious and healthy recipes, a 4-week meal plan giving you a complete outline of what you can feed your baby during this month, and a shopping list so you can pick up everything you need!

As a special bonus, the last chapter of the book includes 15 family-friendly recipes for toddlers age 12 months and older. These recipes can all be made ahead of time (of course!), and you can make just one meal that the whole family can enjoy. I give you special tips on how to make each meal safe for your toddler to eat, and easy adaptations for even the pickiest of eaters.

The make-ahead method

Making your own baby food sounds intimidating, but I’m here to show you how it doesn’t have to be. With a little planning and organization, you can make all the puréed food your baby will ever eat - in just one afternoon.

When you make larger amounts of baby food, rather than making it one meal at a time, you save time and money. Baby food stores perfectly well in the freezer, meaning that when meal time comes along, you can easily heat up or defrost the perfect amount of food for your baby.

In my book, I’ll walk you through the tools and equipment you’ll need to make baby food in bulk and store it in your freezer. Plus, you’ll learn food safety tips to help ensure that your giving your baby safe and delicious baby food.

Meal plans, shopping lists, and more

One of my favorite parts of this book are the meal plans. Each of the baby food chapters comes with a 4-week meal plan, giving you a complete road map to what to feed your baby during the month. I’ve organized the meal plans so they are nutritionally balanced, full of variety, and easy to make.

Plus, each meal plan comes with its own shopping list, so you know exactly what you’ll need to buy at the store to make all your baby’s food for the month.

Then, once the month is over, you can either repeat the meal plan as-is, or adjust it to include your family’s favorite foods, and what’s available at the grocery store or farmer’s market. For more on choosing seasonal fruits and vegetables, check out my articles on seasonal foods for Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Bonus recipes the whole family will love

The family dinner recipes in the book were some of my favorite to create. Since my daughter is nearly 3 years old (wow!), she wasn’t too keen on taste-testing the baby food I was creating at home. But, she sure did love helping me cook and taste the family dinners. Her absolute favorite recipe was Butternut Squash Mac ‘n’ Cheese, followed closely by Crispy Breaded Fish Sticks with Yogurt Tartar Sauce.
